Steamboat Springs

Two routes east, one planning rule

Steamboat Springs sits northwest of the metro, and US 40 is the road out in that direction. It crosses Rabbit Ears Pass on the way east.

From there the trip splits. Some patients stay on US 40 over Berthoud Pass, while others route south on CO 9 to I-70. Which route is quicker depends on conditions on the day.

The planning rule is the same either way. Allow about 3 to 3.5 hours outside peak traffic in good conditions, add a weather buffer, and bring every question to the first visit.

What Steamboat Springs patients can discuss

Breast surgery and abdominal contouring

A consultation from Steamboat Springs can cover breast augmentation, a tummy tuck and breast implant removal. Covering several questions in one visit matters when the drive is this long.

Plan the journey home as part of the appointment. If your procedure involves sedation or general anesthesia, you will need someone to drive you home, and the timing of a long drive home is Dr. Samas's decision for your procedure. Winter conditions on I-70 can add hours or close the road, so leave extra time and call the office if travel stops being safe. Ask Dr. Samas whether returning to a higher elevation changes anything in your recovery plan. The out-of-town patients page covers how longer-distance visits are arranged.

Travel planning

Travel after surgery

Whether and when you can travel home after surgery is Dr. Samas's decision, based on your procedure and recovery.

  • Long car rides after surgery can raise the risk of blood clots. Follow Dr. Samas's instructions about breaks and movement. If you have chest pain, shortness of breath, or leg swelling or pain, call 911.
